Don't judge us by the color of our skin
Or by the trouble that you think we've been in
Don't look at us and judge us without true love
Look at us and show us..what that Sunday Sermon was made of
We are all just as able as you think you are
To be that light..that glow .. that shining star
Yes..We've made those beds .those few mistakes
But we're all trying to learn and change for goodness sakes
Don't judge us by the color of our skin
Or by the trouble that you think we've been in
Don't look at us and judge us without true love
Look at us and show us..what that Sunday Sermon was made of
It is true that we don't seem to ever measure up
To that fancy feast or wine filled cup
But we are all still the children of the Lord Most High
Struggling, trying to live; and just get by
Don't judge us by the color of our skin
Or by the trouble that you think we've been in
Don't look at us and judge us without true love
Look at us and show us..what that Sunday Sermon was made of
You are staring at us with such a grimacing look
Like those, who are damned inside your Sunday Book
But..don't you know that you might possibly be..
The only Gospel people we will ever see?
Don't judge us by the color of our skin
Or by the trouble that you think we've been in
Don't look at us and judge us without true love
Look at us and show us..what that Sunday Sermon was made of
That crowd, you frequent, tells you to stay far away
From people like us..the undesirables along the way
How can we ever become what you consider.."normality"
If condemnation and hatred is all we can ever hope to see
Don't judge us by the color of our skin
Or by the trouble that you think we've been in
Don't look at us and judge us without true love
Look at us and show us..what that Sunday Sermon was made of
Take a moment to think of us..next time you pray
The people you avoid and consider hopeless along the way
How would the Father you approach think of what you've done
To make us feel uninvited and not part of your everyone..?
Don't judge us by the color of our skin
Or by the trouble that you think we've been in
Don't look at us and judge us without true love
Look at us and show us..what that Sunday Sermon was made of
