Slow down for a little while do you really need to rush
Your feet are always running ...you're getting out of touch
I hardly ever get to see you and I hardly ever hear you say
Let's get together for a little outing or spend some time today...

And we wonder what is happening to the people who we were
Our lives are becoming a rat race we're communicating less for sure
If this is what is required to become part of the American dream
I don't want it; you can have it: it's destroying our happy team

The other day we were talking .. the two of us... we were
A ping lit up your cell phone; you became distracted..it's for sure
Before you knew it,  we were changing: no longer having the time
Consumed with all of the have to's . togetherness was hard to bind.

And we wonder what is happening to the people who we were
Our lives are becoming a rat race we're communicating less for sure
If this is what is required to become part of the American dream
I don't want it; you can have it: it's destroying our happy team

The number of breakups is  mounting in the good ole USA
Divorce and non commitments are so prevalent today
Our people are no longer stopping or taking the time they need
To keep their families united..or to squash out personal greed..

And we wonder what is happening to the people who we were
Our lives are becoming a rat race we're communicating less for sure
If this is what is required to become part of the American dream
I don't want it; you can have it: it's destroying our happy team

The remedy, is so very easy for all this madness, that's everywhere
We need to take some moments and tell some people that we really care
We need to shut down  our cell phones and our computers when we meet
There isn't any other solution .. .this one we cannot beat..
